The Tchou Tchou Train
The 'yellow Tchou Tchou train' (wheeled trolley) is an excellent option for those seeking a guided orientation tour of the city and resort area, complete with the best viewpoint of the peninsula.

Parc Forestier - Cagou Encounter
Venture outside the city to discover lush landscapes, rolling green hills and a peaceful nature reserve. Spot feathered friends, flora and fauna as you take a peaceful guided tour through this 85-acre nature reserve. Spot a huge variety of wild and domestic birds, like the Roussette, Notou, Parakeets and the rare Cagou.

Segway Ride on the Bays
Take it all in on a Segway ride along the coastal pathways of famous Anse Vata and Lemon Bay Beaches, popular locations with locals and visitors alike.

Discover Signal Island by Zodiac
Hop aboard a zodiac and meet your skipper as he will be with you for the full duration of this exhilarating experience. After a quick safety briefing, you will depart for a 45 minute zodiac ride to Ilot Signal. Depending on the conditions of the ocean, the ride may get quite bumpy and exciting. Arriving at Laregnere, you will have about an hour and a half to explore the island at your leisure. Pearly white sand beaches, crystal clear water and abundant sea life will easily keep you busy enough. Make sure to bring cameras and snorkel gear as you will want to jump into the water and go look for clown fish, parrotfish, butterfly fish, angelfish or any of the other 130 varieties that have been recorded in this nature reserve. Don't forget to have a look around on the island though and see if you can spot any of the seabirds that live on the island. Alternatively, you can just land on the beach, lay out your towel and enjoy the peace and quiet of this little paradise. On the way back to the ship, your skipper will make sure to point out the various beaches of Noumea and its waterfront.

​DAY 6 - Lifou

Tropical Forest Walk & Secret Grotto
Set out on an informative, guided nature walk highlighting interesting flora and fauna and plants that are relied upon for medicinal purposes in Kanak culture. Back on the road, you’ll head to a breath-taking secret grotto for a guided tour by flashlight. After your grotto tour enjoy a refreshing glass of lemonade and some fresh fruits. At a nearby quarry, you’ll witness a demonstration of traditional hunting techniques, including coconut crab netting and wild pig hunting.

Cliffs of Jokin
Welcome to Lifou, a shimmering limestone island where time moves slowly, schoolchildren giggle by the roadside and villagers linger in the shade. With a tropical breeze rustling through palm trees and the sun sparkling on the ocean, you will know straight away you’ve reached a mighty fine place. Discover the shimmering limestone island of Lifou. Visit a lush Botanical Garden to admire the multitude of endemic plants of Lifou such as the vanilla plant. Then visit the breath-taking Cliffs of Jokin - impressive 120-ft cliffs made of ancient, fossilised coral.

Melanesian Encounter
Indulge in the sights and sounds of the South Pacific during this lovely, half-day visit to Lifou’s beautiful north end. Drive through Easo Village - a seaside settlement with breathtaking panoramic views of jewel-toned Santal Bay. Continue across the narrow neck of the island and with thick, leafy trees and shady palms swaying in the breeze. At the Village of Hnathalo, you’ll be welcomed with a cool, invigorating drink of fresh coconut water. Walk through the village marvel at the Grand Case - the largest chief’s hut in all of New Caledonia. Explore the St Pierre Baptist Church - a rustic chapel built by missionaries in 1883.

Lifou Vanilla House
Board your motor coach and drive across the narrow neck of Lifou to Hnathalo, passing through the settlements of Xépénéhé and Kumo. Stop at a vanilla plantation for a dual tour. First you will enter the vanilla house and learn about the history, cultivation and preparation of the Loyalty Islands vanilla pods. Then, enter the forest on a walking tour with your guide to learn about the animals of Lifou, such as coconut crabs and bats. Time permitting, towards the end of the tour; you may have the opportunity to shop for vanilla products.

A Walk trough the Ancient Forest
Hike through original old-growth forest in the company of a local guide. Your guide will show you some of the oldest trees on the island and you will learn about the endemic plants and their use during past and present times in Melanesian culture. Take photos of the seaside cliffs along the way and enjoy some refreshments afterwards.
